Now's the time to get the word out about your College Application Week events! Kudos to Taft 7-12 for being the first Oregon site to make their local news this year!
From Lincoln City's local public radio station, KYAQ comes this plea for volunteers:
One of the things I love most about College Application Week is that it's intended to be customizable to each school, site, or community. No two CAW events look exactly the same because no two schools, sites, or communities are exactly the same. But that doesn't mean folks can't learn from each other, swap ideas, and implement successful elements of other sites' good work.
A few days ago, I posted Taft's schedule of events for their CAW week. Today, I'd like to share what Parkrose High School will be doing.
Governor proclaims November Oregon College Application Month, with 2nd Annual College Application Week starting November 4
The Oregon University System (OUS) announced today that Governor Kitzhaber has proclaimed that November is Oregon College Application Month. High school seniors and GED candidates at thirty-two high schools and community based organizations throughout the state will actively heed the Governor’s call to apply to college by participating in Oregon’s College Application Week, November 4-8 and November 11-15.

September is a busy time in education - school's just starting and everyone is getting back into the swing of things. For seniors, the pace is picking up because it's time to get serious about their college plans.
College Application Week is still the new kid on the block in Oregon, and it's brand new at the vast majority of our sites this year. That means we need to do a bit of work to ensure that the people in our buildings and communities know about the initiative and how they can help.
We've been waiting to announce this tidbit of news until the time was just right. We wanted school back in session. We wanted seniors to be thinking about their college search. And we wanted site coordinators to be in the throes of planning their CAW events.
We think now is the right time!
This time of year, there aren't many people busier than those who work in schools. We know that - and we know that most of our site coordinators are also full-time faculty or staff members in schools and community based organizations. Our goal is to make the planning of your College Application Week event as streamlined as possible so you have the time and energy to commit to the students you serve on a daily basis.
